"new" Sierra Pk- Mt Andrea Lawrence
I'm not sure if this has been on here already, but on Jan 10, 2013, President Obama signed into law the Mt. Andrea Lawrence Designation Act of 2011, naming, by law, peak 12,240 Mt Andrea Lawerence. In celebration, and as a tribute to a great mountain and a greater human being, Laura Molnar and I paid a visit to Mt Andrea Lawrence Jan 16th.
For those of you that don't know Andrea's story, may I suggest using Google. Though she is mostly noted for being a gold medal skiing olympian, I think she would like to be remembered more for her great contributions to the Eastern Sierra community and regional/national conservation efforts and achievements.

It appears to be this peak - "0.6 miles northeast of Donahue Peak on the northern border of the Ansel Adams Wilderness and Yosemite National Park in California".

Thanks for sharing the photos and the news John. Both are a fitting tribute to a true Sierra legend. While I never had the pleasure of meeting her directly, anyone like myself who grew up skiing and hiking in the eastern sierra in the 60s and 70s knew of her accomplishments and her commitment to the mountains.

Tomba, thanks for posting the map, good idea
Troutdog, Andrea was/is indeed legendary. I had the honor to know her and have always felt if I may accomplish just a small fraction of what she did in her lifetime in mine, I might feel like I have contributed...

Hey John,
I was looking at the map you linked and I think this is a picture of Mt. Andrea Lawrence. Looks like Donahue Pk. then MAL to the right of it. Is this correct?

Foreground: motley looking crew getting psyched for Marie Lakes Col?
Merced-Clark Range tour is one of my all time Sierra favorites. Did it last year for the fourth time and even in that low of low snow years, it was excellent!
Nice photo!

It's great to have a peak named for someone who more than deserves the honor.
I don’t need a goal destination. I need a destination that meets my goals.

Quite a rarity these days, so even more of an honor. Curious, anyone know the last time a Sierra summit received its first official name?

John,
Centenial peak in SEKI was named in 1990. Could be others named later.
