Talked to the ranger today and said the mountain got 6 inches if snow, none at the city elev. road scheduled to open Friday to reds. Should be a good weekend!
Were heading out Friday morning but plan on being around the 1000 lk. area most of saturday before moving down the trail.

1000 Is Lake still frozen, plan accordingly.

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

Wow, that is surprising re: 1000 island.

I'm having a heck of a time determining which east side trailhead I want to shoot for this weekend.

I don't think its surprising that 1000 island lake is frozen. Mammoth and the Ritter Range almost always get more snow than most in the central Sierra. I have bene to Echo Lake(Sabrina Basin) during a low snow year on July 4th and there was no snow around the lake at all, but the lake was frozen solid, so it can happen.
