TR: Thousand Island Lake 5/24-5/26

Post by pakoR »

Hello all. This is my first post here. I came across this forum while researching trip reports to Thousand Island Lake. Over the Memorial Day Weekend, I went up from the Rush Creek Trailhead to Thousand Island Lake, then to Gem Lake, and back out.

Most of the trail from the Rush Creek TH to Thousand Island Lake is exposed and was free of snow. There were some patches of snow before reaching Spooky Meadow and Agnew Pass but nothing worth carrying snowshoes. TIL was mostly frozen over with night temperatures around 25F.

The trail from TIL to Gem Lake was covered in snow above 9500' where it meandered through the dense forest. Most of the snow was hard packed and was easy to traverse. The mosquitoes are starting to make an appearance at Gem Lake. Night temps were in the low 40s.

I want to share some photos from my trip. Enjoy and thanks for all the great information posted here.

Very nice. Thanks for the TR and pics.

Also, welcome to HST!

Seems like a lot of members here were at 1000 island last weekend.

hi Francisco,
Great shots; I'll second the compliment on the Milky Way photo! My wife is looking for a new camera: could you tell us what you were using?
Thanks,

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

Thanks everyone.

cgundersen: On this trip, I used a Canon 6D. For the night photos I used a Canon EF 16-35mm lens, and the rest were taken with a Canon 24-105mm lens. I've also used a Canon T3i with a Sigma 10-20mm lens with good results; see the 2 photos below.
