Edison lake shuttle

Post by sierrasteve » Sat Aug 29, 2015 12:47 pm

I called the folks that are handling the Edison lake shuttle. It sounds like it is still up in the air as to whether it will be running after Labor Day. But even if it is running, I'm wondering how effective it is to get to the JMT. Considering the greatly reduced size of the lake and what seems might be a limited distance for shuttle travel, how effective is it to take the shuttle ? Seems like we could just walk on the trail along the lake to get to JMT.

Has anyone taken the ferry recently and could tell me how effective it was ?

first you get a drive in the van, overloaded with smelly hikers, safely seated on milk crates, all the way down to the water. It's quite a drive, actually.

then you get into Ahab's vessel where the lake begins

what's ahead after getting off that lake shuttle in a dry year - about half the lake (July 2014)

That summer, the extra hiking time would have been about 90 minutes to cover the lake segment we covered on those boats.
