Western Sierras Car Camping question

Post by Footloose »

Last year we were fortunate to find Highland Lakes campground and are looking for recommendations for a similar type location roughly in the highway 4, highway 108, highway 120, or highway 80 vicinities. The types of things we liked about Highland Lake were the scenery, that being primitive camping and a little on the hard side to get to although you can get there without a 4 wheel drive, so it was only moderately filled, the lakes were great, and there was some hiking trails around. We knew someone who used to live in that area who had recommended Highland Lakes and hope some of the HST posters would be familiar with potential car camping locations with similar attributes elsewhere in the Western Sierras.

Maybe Silver Lake on 88? https://www.recreation.gov/camping/silv ... rkId=70555

Not too far from higher hikes near Carson Pass (Frog, Winnemucca lks) Also you can hike around parts of Silver if you wish.

Blue Lakes south of Tahoe might work. But you can't get there right now, because the road is closed!

Eagle Meadows or Herring Creek off 108. But the Herring Creek road is still closed. Eagle meadows is open.

Or just read a good mystery novel set in the Sierra; https://www.amazon.com/Danger-Falling-R ... 0984884963

Thanks we had not looked that far east and depending on road/trail conditions it does look like it would have some good hikes and meet our criteria.

Those all look potential, and there is always next year if the road doesn't open this year, thanks!
