Ritter SE Glacier snow conditions

A friend and I are putting together a trip to climb Mt. Ritter sometime this month and are considering bringing our skis. Has anyone been up on the SE glacier lately? Is the snow even remotely skiable or is it severely suncupped? Are we crazy to try to ski a south-facing route in August? (yes)
