Just got back from three days in the John Muir Wilderness near Florence Lake. Lots of haze on Saturday morning, but the winds shifted as predicted and blew it out of the high country for the rest of the trip. Skies were clear until I went back over Kaiser Pass on the way home; still hazy in the San Joaquin Valley but not as bad as Saturday (could cut the air with a knife !) It's all about the prevailing winds.
Almost live report. We finished 3 day backpacking trip and hiked out from 4th Recess Lake to Mosquito flat trailhead today. It was smoke free and absolutely gorgeous!
I did a short weekend trip out of Duck Pass Trailhead to Lake Virginia along the JMT. Saturday was pretty smoky most of the day. By Sunday the air conditions were good. It really depends on which direction the wind is blowing.
The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office has announced an ADVISORY evacuation for the Mill Creek Campground, recreation resident tracts, and Forest Service Road 5N21. For more information call the Joint Information Center: (209) 533-5800.
