I probably confused you as to what I was referring to since what I wrote is ambiguous. In order to continue accessing west of crest zones, as I later noted as "at the saddle west of Red Slate", the next crossing is the saddle south of Franklin Lake. The 2 saddles to the south along the crest including the Pretty Pass route only bring one into the Convict Creek basin on the east side. One might travel along the crest if there are not any difficult arete sections. From Red Slate one might as well just descend to Lee and Cecile Lakes and then go around the rib at tree line.

Well, I was wrong about having more snow when I was there in 2015. Here is a photo of the north side of Corridor Pass. Whereas Harlen's photo shows a nice snowfield to ascend, as it melts out it gets ugly (upper right in photo). Corridor Pass is the notch on the left skyline.

The photo below may be Gemini Pass which looked a bit ugly to me too.

Wow! So that's how you got to Minaret Lake. Awesome report and photos, Ian. Thanks for posting.

What a gorgeous route with a pretty neat twist to start it in Convict Canyon. The combination of the varied bedrock (metamorphics, granitic) with the rugged topography, vegetation, and deep blue lakes is really special.

It does look pretty awful, and even with the snowfield it was daunting. Thanks for the photo-doc.

davidsheridan, Thanks once again for your comments; you're too kind. I only get out so much because I am unpopular at home.
(*The dogs seem to love me no matter what I do.)

giantbrookie, your geology site sets you up for questions: 1. What is the amazing gray rock in Convict Creek? 2. Are those odd-looking lobes in WD's 1st photo rock-glaciers, or just moraine? Eg., directly below Corridor Pass, and then a larger area of it in front of Red Slate Mtn. Thanks, Ian.
