I just read on Yosemite website, that they are doing a 3-4 day prescribed burn in the east part of Yosemite Valley this week.

I'm in Lone Pine after driving 395 from Alturas in far Northern California for a backpack into Cottonwood Lakes/Miter Basin on June 17-21. It was beautiful and clear until Independence where this is a smoky haze in the Sierra extending far south. I assume the haze is from the fire(s)? in San Bernardino County.

Fortunately, the Flats Fire in the Santa Rosa Mountains south of Palm Desert is the only active wildfire in California. It is not the cause of the smokey conditions, but the dozen large wildfires in Arizona, one of them is at 123,000+ acres, a couple more are over 60,000 acres.
The smoke from these fires also affects Utah, Wyoming, Colorado, Idaho, and New Mexico.

Maverick, good to know (Flats Fire only active fire in California) and thanks for the information about the Arizona fires. I left Tucson three weeks ago on a (mostly) camping road trip in Northern Arizona, Utah, Wyoming (Yellowstone NP), Idaho, Oregon, and northern California. I didn't have internet access most of the time (also, I didn't want to be online) and hadn't checked on Arizona's weather since I left. I knew it was going to be hot there. I am sorry to see the large fire burning near Superior, AZ.

Smokey conditions may last into the weekend.

A small (20 acre) wildfire started yesterday afternoon in the Yankee Canyon area (Hwy 187) near Lake Isabella. It seems they should have this fire contained rather quickly; it's already 40% contained. https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/7541/

Sigh, fire west of Horseshoe Meadows Rd... why can't we have nice things?
