Stanislaus NF:
Stanislaus dedicates 3000 acres of forest as Sasquatch preserve, extends offer to join Forest Leadership Team

SONORA, Calif.— (April 1, 2024) In a stunning move to protect the endangered Sierra Sasquatch, the Stanislais National Forest will dedicate 3000 acres of the Emigrant Wilderness as a designated Sasquatch preserve.

“We’re really excited about the proposed wildlife preserve, while its main goal is to protect our ever-elusive Bigfoot population, this preserve will also serve as a habitat for local pollinators and other Sierra Nevada wildlife species,” said Benjamin Cossel, Stanislais National Forest public affairs officer.

While reported sighting of the Sierra Sasquatch have increased within the forest in the last 20 years, photographic and video evidence has dwindled, despite the prevalence of cell phones and digital cameras, suggesting that the overall number of sasquatches in the forest has remained relatively steady.

“What we’re seeing is an encroachment of traditional Bigfoot territory by people, causing the shy animals to seek higher elevations in an attempt to avoid human contact,” said Aaron James, a local sasquatch enthusiast.

Once the new designation clears the National Environmental Protection Act process (objections are expected to be minimal) Forest Supervisor Jason Kuiken was open to having a member of the Sierra Sasquatch community serve in an advisory capacity on the Forest Leadership Team.

“The Sierra Sasquatch community brings a completely new perspective that we are excited to incorporate into our broader forest planning efforts and thrilled to have anyone of them willing to come forward serve in this capacity,” Kuiken said.

The preserve aims to give the enigmatic creatures a place where they can roam free, lurk behind ancient forest pines and disappear into the woods without a trace.

I am surprised this even makes news, given reports that Millennium Tower just collapsed, triggering a large earthquake that resulted in the entire San Francisco peninsula breaking off and falling into the sea.

Nice to see our national forests thinking carefully about April 1.
