go in August...no bug issues for sure, and Agnew Meadows is pretty easy

I think I'd probably opt for the Parker/Koip pass route. The walk up to Parker pass is gorgeous, and the walk up to Koip Peak pass is spectacular, and the view from the top is great. Easy walk up to Koip Peak from the pass for even more views. Alger Lakes are great. No downside in my mind, especially considering the number of hikers in Lyell Canyon. Last time I was up that way, a few years ago, dayhike to Parker Pass and back, saw like 2 people all day.
