Great American Outdoors Act

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

Great American Outdoors Act

Post by dave54 »

Passed the Senate. Needs House approval (HR 1957). White House signaled President will sign if passed.

Funds the Land and Water Conservation Fund, increases funding for National Parks maintenance, among others.

Signed into law on 8/4/2020.

This bill, among other things, makes funding for the Land and Water Conservation Fund come from offshore and federal land oil leases.
This creates a more reliable and less political funding, but also creates a downside if you end leasing.

Ending federal energy leases = less funding for Parks and federal lands. So the bill is a mixed bag.
