The southern section of the Lost Coast in Sinkyone Wilderness State Park is also closed.

It doesn't say the trails are closed, and it explicitly states that permits are valid. The USFS is just providing friendly, non-binding advice.

Ahem. With Lassen and Yosemite closed to all visitors, how do you thru-hike the PCT? Daisy didn't say the PCT was closed, by the way. She said that there were more closures on the route. Which there are.

In previous years, thru-hikers developed unique methods for piecing this all together. Let's say somebody was northbound, and they reached an impassable stretch of trail, perhaps due to snow or other closure. They would skip past that stretch, perhaps hitch a ride farther north, and then continue. Later, when the problem stretch re-opens, the hiker returns to it and travels it. This is not completing the entire trail in one continuous push, but it is one way to attack it.

Franklin411- until you are tested, be careful. My grandson had pnuomonia with suspicious exposure to the corona virus, but tests came back negative. So if you think you had COVID-19, but not for sure, your illness, whatever it was, has stressed your immune system so you are more vulnerable. I hope you are right, but do not take chances right now. Stay safe.

A friend forwarded the Stanford professors talk (here: https://youtu.be/d6MZy-2fcBw ) to me because I'm a data guy (a layman medically). I'm been importing the data and analyzing it from a purely numbers point of view. I think the main takeaway is that we need MORE data to make forecasts in such a way that we could say lets scale back on shelter-in-place measures (open more business, but still with distancing restrictions, open some parks, etc.) in X weeks.

The panic that the media seems to be enabling is troubling, at least here in CA. If you take the current positive number (9191 cases) and consider it the tip of the iceberg (9X since many cases are asymptomatic) that is only about 2 persons in 1000 (in CA) who are infected. Yet go to the grocery and everyone is acting like the person next to them is going to kill them. Don't get me wrong I'm taking precautions and abiding the shelter in place rules, AND telling my 79 yr old dad to stay home and be very careful.

FYI, the data I've been able to grab does appear to possibility show, for the first time, the last few days a flattening of the curve. Based on some the "Forecasts," like the one out of WA, it is possible that restrictions could be loosened in June... but we really need a randomized sampling or blanket testing to really know and get control of the situation, and not be foolish (leading to more sick) or give in to FUD (fear, uncertainty and doubt).
