Western Sierra ski touring
Has anyone doen any ski touring in or around the Dinkey Lakes Wilderness or Blackcap Basin or in between? I'm pondering a trip into that area in the future, and lookng for any experience that anyone else has had.

Well, I've never done it but have eyed that area for some time now. Blackcap seems like a good distance to ski to, at least for me. But the Dinkey Lakes Wilderness has always caught my eye. If you do make it up there I'd love to hear about it.

I've not skied there, though I have into Kings but all alpine touring. My only thought would be to have a GPS with you. I think most routes would keep you in fairly forested areas and hard to get a visual fix on where you are. The local USFS ranger has gotten lost there in summer (mostly because the trails aren't well defined). Other than that, probably nice terrain.

Like the others, I haven't ski toured there, but have been to DL wilderness a couple of times. Assuming you can gain access during the winter, I would think it would be great.
Here are a few of my old pics.

Since this didn't get much action in Feb., I'm bumping it up to the surface again to see if anyone else has any info. Maybe somebody got out there this past spring?

I don't do much on the west side, but if you guys are on the east side, I would love to play in the snow! I don't have ski's, but have a splitboard with skins that really need to be used.

Never went to Dinkey Lakes in the wintertime, but I have backpacked there several years ago.

Finally made it out there. Skied in from Huntington Lake, went in as far as the Red Rock Basin. Started out in Wintry conditions - got a foot and more of new snow the first couple days - then spring arrived. A few photos here:
