Pear Hut Closed 2021-2022

Post by maverick »

Sequoia Park Conservancy:

Three Rivers, Calif. October 1, 2021- Sequoia Parks Conservancy (SPC) is disappointed to announce that due to the ongoing KNP Complex Fire, the Pear Lake Winter Hut will remain closed for the 2021-2022 season. SPC hopes to reopen the hut for the 2022-2023 season. The National Park Service and SPC managers are committed to the safety of recreational visitors and our staff, and will reopen the hut when conditions are safe.

About the Pear Lake Winter Hut Program

This historic cabin is available to the public from December to April. The advanced-level ski/snowshoe trail traverses the beautiful wilderness of the Sierra Nevada Mountains and ends at the rustic, overnight lodge. The trail begins at Wolverton at 7,200 feet and ascends steeply for six miles to the Pear Lake area at 9,200 feet. The hut sleeps ten people and offers many amenities such as cooking utensils, pellet stove, and cook stoves. The trip to the hut is for experienced backcountry skiers/snowshoers and can be potentially dangerous due to changing winter conditions.

About the Pear Lake Winter Hut
The Pear Lake Winter Hut was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) between 1939-1941. Sequoia Parks Conservancy has been operating the Pear Lake Winter Hut in cooperation with the National Park Service for many years and welcomes winter backcountry enthusiasts from all over the country each year.

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.
