new bear vault sizes

Post by TurboHike »

Just an FYI in case anyone is looking to purchase a bear canister. Bear Vault just released two new sizes, the BV425, which is smaller than the BV450; and the BV475, which is in between the BV450 and the BV500. Four sizes available now! It's nice to have choices.

Some reviews:

The Bare Boxer Contender is arguably superior to the BV425 for my uses. I was able to get 4 days in one for a recent trip.

The new BV425 does have a better volume per weight ratio, and would fit in smaller frameless packs (25 liters and below) better because it can slide in with the lid flat against your back.

Bare boxer Contender vs BV425:

726g va 800g (Bare Boxer wins)

7.4” vs 8.7” diameter

8” vs. 6” height

4.5 liters/275 c.i. vs 5 liters/305 c.i. (BV425 wins)

$79.90 vs $73.50

I have a BV425 in hand and fits so nicely into a small volume pack compared to my BB Contender. It’s wonderful to have it placed with the flat side against my back rather than barreling the pack into a round shape.

I'd love to see pictures comparing the two, especially how the fully packed pack looks with both!
