Whitney Rescues this year

Use this forum to stay informed on missing persons alerts, active SAR's and unfortunate hiker accidents we can all hopefully learn from. Any information you may have on a missing person, including first hand weather related information or any other insight (however little) may prove to be critical information to Law Enforcement / SAR in locating the person in question.

Great article and thanks for posting. I have climbed Whitney once in August 1985 when I was 20. There was NO snow on the trail then. I wouldn't even consider doing it this year at all knowing how much snow is up there. Too difficult for me and I don't have winter climbing skills either. Thanks again for sharing.

Bugs me how they always seem to use "climber" and "hiker" interchangeably.

Climbed Whitney twice via the Mountaineer's Route. Once was in August of '83 and the entire traverse to the summit plateau from the notch was solid snow and ice still. Ended up climbing the east ridge from the notch.
