I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

Beckwourth Complex Plumas NF 7/14 Update

Post by maverick »

Plumas NF:
Current Situation: Fire crews continue making progress to contain the Sugar Fire within the Beckwourth Complex.
Containment operations are the most challenging between Diamond Face and Dixie Lookout, where fire activity and steep terrain make it difficult for crews to engage the fire directly. Fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters are being used to help control the fire until firefighters can safely enter the area. As a precaution, fire crews are working to locate alternative areas to build containment lines in the Spade Road and Ramelli Creek area, where two spot fires were located.

In the Doyle Grade area, firefighters were able to add hose lines to strengthen the combination of handlines, dozer lines and railroad lines which are containing the fire.
From Scott Road, heading northeast to Doyle, as well as from Dixie Look out, south to Maddelena, the fire has had no additional growth. Crews are conducting patrols to continue to search for and eliminate any residual patches of heat along the containment lines.

Tuesday was the last day of the excessive heat warning, but temperatures will remain several degrees above what is normally expected at this time of year. Southwest winds will be a steady 5-10 miles-per-hour, increasing to 10-20 mph, with gusts up to 28 mph in the afternoon.

Evacuations: Mandatory and voluntary evacuations remain in place. Some areas of Lassen County and Plumas County have been downgraded. Please check your local county’s social media pages for the latest on evacuations in your area, and be sure to register for your county’s CodeRed emergency alert system:
• Plumas County: https://public.coderedweb.com/CNE/en-US/6EB9E0DB3133
• Lassen County: https://public.coderedweb.com/CNE/en-US/B69B31DD99B6...
• Washoe County: https://public.coderedweb.com/CNE/en-US/169EBBD0A3AE

Evacuation centers:
• Lassen County Fairgrounds: 195 Russel Ave. Susanville, CA.
• Proctor R. Hug High School: 2880 Sutro St, Reno, NV 89512
• Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center: 1350 N Wells Ave, Reno, NV.

Road Closures: There is a Plumas National Forest closure order in effect surrounding the fire's perimeter, which includes several roads. Highway 395 is now open. Please monitor Caltrans's District 2 website or Twitter feed for updated highway closure information.

Glacier Fire (Big Pine Creek) 7/14

Post by maverick »

Inyo Co Sheriff's Dept:
The Glacier Fire was reported on 1:18 p.m. on Wednesday July 14, 2021 and is located between Glacier Lodge and Baker Creek in the Big Pine Creek area. There are two fires in this area - both lightning-caused. One is the Glacier Fire and is approximately 5 acres in size. The Glacier North Fire is also approximately 5 acres in size. Crews made good progress on containment lines overnight. They are being supported by multiple helicopter and air tanker drops during the day. Water and retardant drops help slow down fire spread so ground crews can make progress constructing fireline.

Updates will be posted to InciWeb at: https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/7668/ and on the Forest Facebook https://www.facebook.com/inyonf and Twitter pages: https://twitter.com/Inyo_NF.

Fire Restrictions remain in effect for the Inyo National Forest and Bishop Bureau of Land Management (BLM). Campfires are allowed only in developed campgrounds and recreation sites. A portable stove or lantern using gas, jellied petroleum or pressurized liquid fuel may be used with a valid wilderness or California Campfire Permit in dispersed areas. Smoking is only allowed within an enclosed vehicle, building, a developed recreation site, or in an area at least three feet in diameter cleared of flammable material.

Dexter Fire 7/15 Update (Contained)

Post by maverick »

Inyo NF:
Incident Start Date: July 12, 2021
Cause: Lightning
Acreage: 2,000
Containment: 13%
Hand Crews: 5 Engines: 28 Helicopters: 4 Air Tankers: 2 Dozers: 3 Water Tenders: 4
Total Personnel: 266

Extreme fire behavior continued yesterday in the afternoon as thunderstorm cells developed over the fire area. Spot fires on the southwest were taken care of and extinguished. Firefighters have established fireline on the southern flank of the fire and will be monitoring and mopping up today. Strategic firing was employed on the northeastern edge of the perimeter to moderate the fire spread. Aircraft continued to work throughout the day to assist firefighters in dropping water and retardant.

Today, firefighters will be working to hold and improve the north side of the fire to the Pilot Springs Rd., and monitoring and mopping up the southern dozer line to the east. Firefighters will be looking for opportunities to continue with strategic firing to keep the fire on the west side of Pilot Springs Rd.

The threat of thunderstorms should decrease today, giving firefighters relief from the extreme runs of the last two days. The Springs Fire of 2019 on the northwest side and the Clark and Owens River Fires on the south is holding the fire within the existing fire perimeter in those areas. Smoke will continue to impact the Mammoth Lakes area from the Dexter Fire (east) and the River Fire (Mariposa—west).

CA Interagency Incident Management Team 14 assumed command of the fire at 7 p.m. yesterday, July 14. The Type 2 team will bring additional resources to the fire to aid in suppression.

Mandatory evacuations for campers and residents have been implemented in the Bald Mountain area. The Big Springs and Bald Mountain Springs Campgrounds have been evacuated and are currently closed. Roads in the immediate vicinity are also closed to the public: North of the Owens River Rd. (2S07), east of Highway 395, west of Forest Rd. 1S17, and south of Highway 120. Previous treatments in this area will reduce the spread fire growth on the west side because of diminished fuels.

Glacier Fire (Big Pine Creek) 7/16

Post by maverick »

Inyo NF:
The lightning-caused Glacier Fire continues to burn on a high ridge between Big Pine and Baker Creeks west of Big Pine, California. The fire is now approximately 43 acres in size. No closures are in effect at this time.

Ground crews, including 14 smokejumpers plus two hand crews that arrived this morning, continue to make good progress on containment lines. Helicopter and air tanker support continues as aircraft are available. Continued warm temperatures and breezy winds are occurring today with southwest winds 10-17 mph. There is a chance of rain showers Sunday and Monday.

Dexter Fire 7/16 Update (Contained)

Post by maverick »

Inyo NF:
Incident Start Date: July 12, 2021
Cause: Lightning
Acreage: 2,362
Containment: 15%
Hand Crews: 6 Engines: 30 Helicopters: 4 Air Tankers: 2 Dozers: 3 Water Tenders: 2
Total Personnel: 308

Yesterday, afternoon winds continued to spread the fire to the northeast within the planned fire perimeter, while crews strengthened and monitored the northern and southern flanks. Mop up (extinguishing the smoldering area along the fireline) has begun in both of those areas. The fire is still active on the northeast edge and today’s priority is to continue strategic firing to keep the fire within the perimeter. Some aircraft has been diverted due to regional priorities for other fire starts, but will still be available to assist with slowing fire spread.

Surface fuels include sage in the lower elevations, Jeffrey Pine at mid elevations, and Lodgepole Pine and mixed conifer in higher areas. Fire behavior includes torching and short to moderate duration crown fire during the heat of the burn period, but low to moderate spread most of the day and evenings. Spotfires are spreading up to 1/2 mile but are being managed quickly. The majority of threat to structures to the south along Owens River has been mitigated. Crews will continue to prepare for strategic burning this evening from the Pilot Springs Rd. to the west.

The threat of thunderstorms may be less today, giving firefighters a window to complete burning and secure the fireline. However, a hot and dry airmass will move into the area, reinforcing fuel receptivity. Smoke may continue to impact the Mammoth Lakes area from the Dexter Fire (east) and the River Fire (Mariposa—west).

Mandatory evacuations for campers have been implemented in the Bald Mountain area.
