What a change from just the beginning of the week.

There are now 16 wildfires (7 of which are satellite detected and not reported or named) in California contributing to the smoke coming in from Arizona, New Mexico, Mexico, and Nevada, which may affect the Sierra depending on the wind direction.

NWS is forecasting dry lightning storms coming into the Sierra this afternoon; there is a chance that it could start even more wildfires this afternoon and Saturday with these bone dry conditions.

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

Alabama Hills Fire Update (Contained)

Inyo NF:
Current size is approximately 300 acres with 0% containment. No structures threatened. Lightning caused. Lone Pine Campground has been evacuated and Whitney Portal Road is closed.

Evacuation order has been lifted, looks like they got this one under control pretty fast.

Whitney Portal website says Whitney Road is closed until next Tuesday. They are refunding permits that cannot be used. Has that changed?

Whitney Road closure is still in effect according to the update released 2 hrs ago.
