Re: Kennedy Meadows(108) to Iceland Lake

2. No repellent or head-net needed anywhere along the trail or at the lakes, except for around dawn and dusk near wet areas.

Is that Kennedy Meadows North (near highway 108), or Kennedy Meadows South (south of Lone Pine)?

Cottonwood Lakes / South Fork Lakes 7/7-7/9

Post by advtrvlr »

Cottonwood Lakes Trailhead 7/7/21 - 7/9/21 Hiked to o Cottonwood Lakes # 1-2 7/7 then down South Forks Lakes and the meadows 7/8, coming out on 7/9. Mosquitos were 0 for the entire time even through the meadows, but all the meadows were very dry - water only in the stream, and the stream between the # 1 and #2 Cottonwood lakes was dry. Only saw a dozen or so mosquitos the entire trip.

Emigrant July 2nd-6th

Post by JasonG »

From Crabtree

Rososco> Upper Buck > Emigrant > Piute (lakes)

Pretty much a 2 the whole trip. Mayybe 2.5. Not too bad in all. Little heavy at dusk at Emigrant , but we were fishing so up in the granite wasn't as bad. had long sleeves and hood. lil 30% on hands and it was fine.
I have a feeling they wont be an issues the rest of season.. only smoke from here on out... :(

7/3-9 Northern Yosemite Loop out of Twin Lakes TH

Post by ekt »

We were lucky to have a moderate breeze for most of the trip. The higher numbers in the ranges below are generally for forested or meadow areas when the wind dropped.

7/3: Crown Lake - 3
7/4: Slide Canyon - 3 to 4
7/5-7/7: Sister, Surprise and Smedberg lakes - 2
7/8: Matterhorn Canyon - 1 to 2
7/9: Little Slide Canyon - 2 to 3

Quartz Mtn>Middlr Chain Lake 7/1-7/4

Post by Hike Bonzer »

Quartz Mtn. trail head to middle Chain lakes was pretty bad with mosquitoes July 1st to the 4th especially near meadows and water. I would classify the conditions as a 4, bad in the mornings all day and worst at dusk.

McGee > Silver Divide > Mono Pass (mostly XC)

Post by erutan »

2021-07-03 to 2021-07-10: McGee Creek TH > McGee Pass > Tully/Hortense Lakes etc > JMPCT (~10 min) > Brave Lake > Silver Pass > Mott Lake > Grinnel basin (via Bighorn Pass) > Hopkins Basin (via Grinnel Hopkins ridge) > Pioneer Basin (via Hopkins peak) > Golden Lake > Mono Pass > Mosquito Flats TH

Mostly 2 in forested areas or near water. Was a 2-4 at Brave Lake (not bad at all early afternoon), but could be avoided by gaining elevation. More than in SEKI, but less than it what sounds like are north of Mammoth.

Similar to the last few years, many places have worse evenings than mornings, vs the more symetrical timing I remember in the past.
