Morgan Pass east side trail is barely passable

Post by scottmiller »

The trail between Morgan Pass and Pine Creek is a mess. There are (currently) two big washouts requiring very steep scrambling and some class 3 climbing. Packs need to be passed or dropped. There are also numerous slides requiring boulder hopping. Lots of loose scree.
Google Earth shows what used to be a gravel road that looks like a speedy way up or down, but speedy it is not. Can you do it? Probably, but I would not do it again. It's very difficult and annoying.
Sure is amazing country, though. But you can get there from Rock Creek or Mosquito Flat.
