For the Shepherd Pass uninitiated, like me, how tough is this pass on a normal year? Class 2?
There is a trail all the way, so class 1, unless the trail is under snow and it frequently is at the top. Here is a photo without snow (Aug 2021). For scale/perspective, you can just make out a hiker 2/3rds of the way to the top and in the middle of the photo. On my blog, I described this as "This climb was not fun, steep, lots of loose rocks and switchbacks, not terrible, just not fun."
