Gentianopsis holopetala is a species of flowering plant in the gentian family known by the common names Sierra fringed gentian or just "Sierra gentian"

What a terrific trip and route. I've been to the Tablelands twice, but both times out of Wolverton; the route via Beville etc. looks marvelous.

Great report, I'm surprised by the mortar rock, are there acorn oak trees near Alta meadow?

None that I'm aware of. But my daughter informed me that natives also ground pine nuts. I'm not even certain that the photo is of an actual grinding rock, although it does look like one. There must be someone on HST with actual expertise in these matters?
