We went on a snorkel trip inside the barrier reef, the second largest in the world:

More:
This species always seemed to be in pairs, chilling on the bottom:
We swam through a school of mini, non-stinging jelly fish:
On the way back we went past “Bird Island”:

We then took the small boat back to the mainland, rode up to Belize City and took a bigger boat shuttle to the tourist island of Caye Caulker, where we hand fed the tarpons:

We went back out snorkeling again, this time to the Hol Chan Marine Reserve:

My son and I did some more fishing:
We released the Cuda but kept the Grouper. We had it two ways, grilled “a la plancha” and in a curry sauce. Both ways were some of, if not the best fish I’ve ever eaten.

Re: Incidents of travel in Belize
Belize is a small country, about 8,900 sq. miles, but is B I G on adventure. The population is only 408,000 people, comprised of Mestizos, Mayans, Garifuna, Creole, Ex-Pats and surprisingly; Mennonites. Every local we met was super friendly and helpful. And while the food is neither fancy nor complicated (a lot of rice and beans), everything we ate was fresh, delicious and (mostly) healthy.
I’d like to give a huge shout out and big thanks to all the staff, guides and boat captains at:

Yeah, the Mayan ruins, scuba diving and snorkeling are world class. And laying in a hammock, drinking Belikins ain't bad either.
